Track Twitter Activity Using Visibli Tool

There are many services that analyze the activity of a Twitter profile. Some are interested in the behavior of twitter users by looking at the number of tweets posted or through the average twitter activity over a given period. Others will instead follow the links you post to know the traffic generated by those links.

Let me introduce you to yet another twitter tool that you could use in your marketing arsenal. :-) You can now track twitter activity using Visibli, a free service that provides you with analytic and tracking capabilities on the links that you post on Twitter. It's somehow similar to Google Analytics. Once registered via Twiiter or Facebook Connect (via OAuth), you access graphs showing the number of clicks on the links you posted for a period of 1 day to 1 month, and even real time. The service also shows a summary of the total number of clicks on the period, the different sources of traffic to your Twitter account, and number of clicks per link. Having all that data collected on one page for free can be quite useful to those want a quick overview and summary on the activity and reach of their Twitter profile. Lastly, it has an option for centralizing the tool on your dashboard. Truly neat. Check it out here (link).

Turn Your iPhone Into A Radio Station

How do you turn your iPhone into a radio station? Simple. Use Wahwah. :-)

Many music lovers and mobile sharers have had certainly thought of this idea in the past, but then it seemed technically difficult and legally risky. But things will now change, thanks to Wahwah.fm, an iPhone app that can distribute the real-time music you're listening on your mobile.

Wahwah.fm introduces the concept of listening to your music and broadcasting it at the same time. Pretty cool huh? :-)

With Wahwah.fm you can create your own music radio station by setting what music you are currently playing on your iPhone into public. This way, other wahwah.fm users can tune into your broadcast and hear the exact same music you are listening to.

You can first create playlists from the tracks in your iPhone or SoundCloud, then start the broadcast , listen, and deliver the same music at the same time to others so that they can listen to what you are listen. It's a powerful concept of music sharing.

Want more? The application will also provide a geolocation functionality that will connect directly to broadcasters close to your home for you to monitor what they're listening to.

Sharing functions and comments is also available. This is indeed a very exciting app that I am eager to test, but while it seems like a novel idea, many still raise some questions. From the technical point of view, streaming music over the network using your smartphone requires a good connection and will of course consume bandwidth, something that could be quite unpopular with the telecom operators, which could limit or prohibit this kind of use. They may also find a new way to charge for this option. The other question is it's legality: publicly broadcasting music without paying royalties will raise many legal arguments, which may eventually spin out of control.

In the meantime, treat yourself with this app while it's still available. :-)

Mini-Turbine Uses Blood To Produce Energy?

The title sounds almost like Fantastic Voyage and Innerspace, and if we were close to April 1, you may have doubted the validity of our headline for today. But this project is deadly serious, as it originated from a country renowned for its expertise in precision mechanisms.

The idea is simple: blood flow and pressure are a potential source of energy. Why not then take the good old principle of the dynamo or the water mill, and upon tweaking this idea, why not consider installing a micro-turbine in the body to produce electricity? Hmmm.

No, don not think that the energy produced by this "microturbine" will be enough to charge your iPod or advance your Prius Hybrid on the road, but the energy produced, up to about one milliwatt, can be enough to supply electricity amounting to an equivalent of ten pacemakers. Whoa. This looks promising. Very promising indeed. Imagine this, using a tiny turbine installed in a blood vessel, researchers could generate the microwatts needed to keep implanted medical devices ticking. With proper development, this could then provide a means for patients with pacemakers to get rid of constraints and batteries to become completely autonomous and self-sufficient in energy: How's that for innovation? :-) As the heart beats, it generates power for the patient's device, with its own energy. Potential uses of this energy may be for implanted medical devices like pacemakers, blood pressure sensors, drug-deliver pumps, glucose meters, or neurostimulators, all of which need just a tiny amount of juice to continue operating.

This fantastic concept was presented recently at the International Conference on Medicine and Biology Microctechnologies in Lucerne Switzerland by a team of researchers at the University of Bern. However, it is not without some risks, since its presence in the bloodstream can potentially cause blood clot coagulation. Ther work is not finished for its creators, and there will be many stages of development before the device will be safe and operational for public use.

5 Solid Ways To Protect Your Children Online

Do you agree that the internet is a really wonderful technology? This tool has enabled people and organizations to move forward, to progress. But then, it also has a darker side and can be dangerous, especially for children. Risks exist on the Internet for adults and these risks are even higher for children, hence if you're a parent, you might have asked the question: How can I protect my children online? So, how can we ensure the protection of our children on the Internet? There are several ways to do this. The following are five solid ways on how to protect your children online.

Parental control softwares are often used to protect children online

Since 2006, ISP provider companies has made parental control software  available to customers. Hence, you can easily access this type of protection if you research it online. Note however that the software provided by your ISP may not be compatible with your operating system. In this case, you may turn to a competitor software or an appropriate extension for your browser (eg ProCon Latte Content Filter for Firefox soon be compatible with version 4 of this browser). Parental control softwares may not be perfect, but they can really improve the safety of children online.

Communicate with your children and guide them so they can be informed and aware

It is necessary to discuss these important things with your children, specifically, you need to teach them about dangers they may encounter on the Internet so that they will be prepared. Your discussions can also focus on what they should or should not do. You need to communicate with them effectively  and point out concrete examples, such as not to haphazardly disclose personal data when online (name, address, phone number, etc.). You can instruct them never to talk to strangers online. Also instruct them to tell you as soon as possible if someone online wants or requests to see them in person.Guide them and teach them about their responsibilites, especially in the case of those who keep a blog. They may not realize that those writings or comments carry risks with them.

Be a role model to your children

The parent is a child's number one role model. It is of utmost importance therefore to show them how to be responsible online. Wouldn't it be difficult to explain to a child the concept of copyright if you yourself illegally copies and downloads movies/songs? Be careful with the sites you visit too. It would be so unfortunate and horrible for a child to stumble upon immoral or inappropriate content you visited earlier through the history of your browser. What would you feel if this happens to you and your child?

Openly monitor his activities by strategically placing the computer

Preferably, if possible, it would be very good if you can position the computer in a strategic place where you can visually access it easily. This way, you can easily take a look at the screen to see what your children are doing.

Set some ground rules and stick to them

Make your children understand that they cannot surf the internet all the time or 24/7. You need to set ceratin rules regarding internet use of family members. As an added bonus, this will allow you to keep time for family life (playing together, bonding with the kids, etc. ...), for your children to play and be sociable too, and for them to prioritize about their other duties such as school.

That's it. :-) What about you, can you think of more ways to protect your children online? What do you think? Leave your comments below.
